SportPesa League Kicks Off for 2025/26 Season

19 September 2025

The 2025/26 football season in Kenya has kicked off with a bold new identity – the SportPesa League.

In a landmark partnership between the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and SportPesa, the top-tier league has been rebranded and relaunched, marking the beginning of a transformative 10-year plan to elevate Kenyan football.

The partnership, valued at KES 1.12 billion, is set to revolutionise the development of football in Kenya. With KES 85 million allocated in the first year and increasing to KES 145 million by year ten, the funding will directly benefit the 18 participating clubs: they will receive 60% of the sponsorship funds, while FKF manages the remaining 40% to run the league.

SportPesa has committed KES 10 million in prize money for the league champions, with a total of KES 20 million awarded to the top three clubs each season. The new format also introduces enhanced player recognition and welfare initiatives – a clear signal that SportPesa is investing in the future of football talent across Kenya.

A New Era for Kenyan Football

At the official launch, Ronald Karauri, CEO of SportPesa, and Hussein Mohammed, FKF President, outlined their shared vision for the SportPesa League as a feeder into the national team. With improved club structures, stronger media coverage, and increased financial stability, the goal is for Kenya to compete in the FIFA World Cup within the next ten years.

“Football in Kenya will reclaim its lost glory. Over the years, we will steadily make great progress and strides,” said Ronald Karauri.

“This partnership gives us the stability and resources to build the SportPesa League into one of the continent’s finest,” added Hussein Mohammed.

The SportPesa League officially began on 19 September 2025, with a thrilling lineup of fixtures and live broadcast coverage provided by Azam TV. Fans across the country are already tuning in to witness the new era of Kenyan football unfold.

The launch of the SportPesa League is yet another demonstration of commitment to grassroots development, player welfare, and national pride. It forms part of SportPesa’s broader mission to support sport across Africa and to create unforgettable experiences for fans and athletes alike.
