This month, SportPesa’s Tujiamini initiative recognised communities-led projects across Kenya through its Gold Community Awards. Winners of the Gold Community Award take home Ksh 1 million to help with the work they are doing to support communities across the country.
One winner of the Tujiamini Gold Community Awards was Busia Border FM 89.9, a community radio station reaching over half a million people. The station works with young people who are facing challenges such as crime and drug abuse and provides them with the opportunity to be media trained and learn production skills.
Busia Border FM 89.9 will use the Tujiamini Gold Award prize to upgrade their studio with new broadcast mixers and microphones, enabling them to continue the vital work they are doing for young people across Kenya.
Another winner of the Tujiamini Gold Community Award was a diary famer, Mr Henry. Mr Henry’s Kenyan community farm not only produces milk, but it also supports local football teams and create jobs for young people.
Using the Tujiamini Gold Award prize, his farm has invested in Milk ATMs, pasteurizers, and milking machines, boosting production, and helping to increase the social impact work Mr Henry leads in the community.
