SportPesa Brings Formula One Home and Accelerates Kenyan Motorsport

28 September 2026

Kenyan motorsport fans experienced a special moment at the 54th Africa Concours d’Elegance, as SportPesa unveiled a full-scale replica of the 2019 Racing Point Formula One car at Nairobi’s Ngong Racecourse.

Launched under the theme “Coming Home for Good”, the campaign marks an important chapter in SportPesa’s history. In 2019, SportPesa became the first homegrown African company to sponsor a Formula One team, taking the Kenyan brand onto one of the world’s biggest sporting stages. The original car was driven by veteran Mexican racing driver Sergio “Checo” Perez.

The car’s unveiling at the Concours is only the beginning. SportPesa will be taking the car to various public spaces across the country, giving more Kenyans the opportunity to experience Formula One up close.

Bringing Formula One home reflects SportPesa’s continued commitment to creating visibility, opportunity and excitement around motorsport in Kenya.

Earlier this year, SportPesa announced a KSh40 million investment in motorsport, extending its partnership with six-time Kenya National Rally Champion Leonardo Varese and supporting the development of the next generation through the SportPesa Racing Rising Stars initiative. The programme brings together experienced competitors and emerging talent, including Jason Kareithi and Adriano Varese.

SportPesa’s investment in Kenyan motorsport stretches back more than a decade and continues to produce results. Leonardo Varese has been sponsored by the brand since 2015 and, alongside long-time co-driver Kigondu Kareithi, continues to compete at the highest level. Most recently, the pair placed second in the Specially Prepared Vehicles class and seventh overall at the 2026 Kenya National Rally Championship opener.

This is the SportPesa Effect: building on Kenya’s global sporting success by creating opportunities for future generations.
