Following SportPesa’s success in Kenya, the company set its sights on Tanzania, launching operations there in 2017.

Staying true to its values, SportPesa was keen to start investing in Tanzanian sport from the very beginning and the launch was announced alongside a partnership with Serengeti Boys, Tanzania’s national under-17 football team.

The launch event, held in Dar es Salaam, was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, who welcomed SportPesa as a valuable partner in the development of Tanzanian sports.

Speaking at the launch, SportPesa Tanzania Director Abbas Tarimba said: “We are committed to football, and this is just the beginning of a new era.”

SportPesa has always understood its responsibility to communities and football from day one. Following successful partnerships in Kenya to support grassroots sports and athletes to date, SportPesa has continued this approach in other markets.

Since SportPesa launched in Tanzania, its investment into Tanzania football, sports and society has remained as strong today as it was in 2017.
