SportPesa becomes the official sponsors of Hull City FC

Building on our partnerships with EPL clubs, we partnered with Hull City to become the club’s official sponsor. The sponsorship involved Hull travelling to Kenya to play Gor Mahia in 2018.

As part of our ambition to bring international football clubs to Africa to raise the standard of football across the continent, SportPesa announced its partnership with Hull City FC.

The partnership saw SportPesa become Hull City’s official sponsor, which led to the English Championship club travelling to Kenya to face Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia.

Under the deal, the SportPesa logo appeared on Hull City’s home, away, and third kits for the 2016/17, 2017/18, and 2018/19 seasons. Simon King, Hull City’s Commercial Manager, described the partnership as “by far the largest in our history and a sign of our ambition to grow our Club and become a household name in our sport globally.” He also praised SportPesa for being “so much more than a betting brand,” highlighting its significant footprint in grassroots sports development across Africa.

A long-term commitment to the future of Kenyan football

The game, which took place in the newly renovated Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, drew a full-capacity crowd of 60,000 fans, with thousands more watching on big screens outside. It was the first time the stadium was filled in 21 years, creating an electric atmosphere and showcasing the appetite for world-class football in Kenya.

This was made possible by SportPesa’s investment into renovating the stadium. A symbol of SportPesa’s commitment to bridging the gap between African football and the global stage, it gave local players invaluable exposure and fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Despite both teams playing well, the final score was nil all.
