Levelling the playing field when it comes to maternity health care in Kenya

SportPesa’s Maternal Health Care programme is aimed at ensuring that women do not need to travel long distances to receive better health care. The programme gives much-needed equipment to maternity units in hospitals across Kenya.

In 2021 the SportPesa Foundation launched the Maternal Health Care programme in Kenya.

The vital programme provides much-needed equipment to hospitals across the country, aiming to improve safety and outcomes for mothers and babies.

Beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, nebulisers and other medical equipment have been provided to public and mission facilities through SportPesa’s initiative, after the company identified a clear national need.

One of many beneficiaries of the initiative so far has been the Kilifi County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where around 600 babies are born each month. Similarly, hospitals in Kasarani have received haemogram machines, appliances like fridges and washing machines and BP monitors.

Charitable Giving in Kenya

SportPesa Chief Executive, Captain Ronald Karuri, has explained why the company is so committed to transforming care for mothers and babies in Kenya.

“We are doing our part as a corporate to enhance maternal health care which we feel is a very crucial area in health, and needs all the support it can get from both the public and health sector.”

“We all know how crucial our mothers are in this society and just being able to provide such basic needs to ease their load, is more than enough for us.”
