The launch of the SportPesa Super Cup brought some of the best football teams from Kenya and Tanzania together, with the winner playing Everton FC

Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC won the inaugural tournament which saw them play Everton in Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Tanzania.

Continuing our investment into African sports and athletes, SportPesa launched the SportPesa Super Cup in Kenya and Tanzania. The SportPesa Super Cup is an eight-team knock out league, which is still running today.

The SportPesa Super Cup brings together clubs from Tanzania and Kenya to compete against each other, with the winning team not only in with a chance to play Everton FC but also pocketing Sh3 million.

In 2017, Kenya’s Gor Mahia were crowned the winners of the SportPesa Super Cup, which saw them travel to Tanzania to play Everton FC.

The match, which featured the return of Wayne Rooney, playing for Everton for the first time since leaving the club in 2004 to play for Manchester United. Despite Gor Mahia giving Everton a run for their money, the game ended with a score of 2-1 to Everton.

The SportPesa Super Cup continued into 2018, which saw Gor Mahia hold onto its title as champions and travel to the UK to face Everton FC again, this time at Goodison Park. Unfortunately for Gor Mahia, the game ended 4-0 to Everton.
