SportPesa invests in Kenyan grassroots football
Shortly after being founded, SportPesa began its long-term investment in grassroots football, a commitment that continues today.

From its inception, SportPesa has invested in grassroots football, starting with sponsoring the Omar Kasongo Sports Academy in Nairobi’s Kibera settlement. The sponsorship provided the Academy with much-needed funds to improve facilities, purchase equipment and build training programmes. This backing has been instrumental in nurturing football talent from one of Kenya’s most disadvantaged communities, where many young people face economic hardship and limited access to education. By investing in these athletes, SportPesa is not only supporting sport, but also creating pathways for social mobility and personal growth.
Following this, SportPesa’s investment into grassroots football in Kenya expanded, providing prize money and football equipment to both the Koth Biro football tournament and Oguso Soccer tournament. We also sponsored the Wambia Memorial soccer tournament in Kakamega.
Our commitment to supporting grassroots football
With the aim of increasing diversity in football across the country, SportPesa sponsored 18 men’s and women’s football teams in the Kithumula ward as part of the Late Francis W. Maingi soccer tournament in Kitui. This ensured that women’s football also received the much-needed support and resources.
More recently, in 2023, SportPesa sponsored six football teams from Kasarani to help support young footballers in the region by providing much needed equipment, facilities and kits to the clubs.
Through these initiatives, SportPesa continues to demonstrate the SportPesa Effect – using sport as a tool for empowerment, education, and opportunity.
